“So, I hear you visited my wife today,” Luca says as soon as I enter my office at Lockton Law. He rises from the chair he is sitting in and stares me down.

Expecting this, I walk to my desk and stand in front of it, waiting for the fallout.

After leaving For Any Occasion, I headed back here feeling lighter…happier. What started as a favor to sister up has turned into the best day of my life. Nothing could dampen my mood. Not even the three idiots standing in front of me now.

Dillon and Gabe must have been hovering in one of the hallways leading to the offices because the moment Luca spoke, their nosy asses popped up. The scene reminds me of the standoffs in those old Western movies. Luca is now stationed in front of the closed door while Dillon is off to the side on his right and Gabe on his left.

“You know I went to For Any Occasion.” They gave me so much shit about this appointment, now they want to act dumb. I swear, if I hadn’t known them for years, their constant teasing would have put an end to our working relationship. As it stands, I’m almost sick of them now.

All I want to do is get this over with so I can start clearing my desk for the weekend. It’s Thursday, and tomorrow night is the dinner that caused this mess. Typically, I’d work until it was time to leave, then head straight back to the office early the following day—sometimes the same night. But this time, I have a date with a princess and plan on being occupied all weekend.

“Yeah. But what we didn’t know was how crazy you were. According to my little sister, when you met McKenna, things got…interesting.” Gabe smirks. Luca and he are brothers, so he has taken to calling Tory his little sister.

Luca has been glaring at me the entire time. He’s pissed, and I know why. I may be annoyed by the big production he’s making out of my punishment, but I get it. I’d probably do the same if I were in his shoes.

Focused on having McKenna by my side tomorrow, I foolishly threatened his “angel,” Tory. Not with physical harm or anything crazy like that, but I did say something along the lines of shutting down her business if she didn’t get McKenna to go with me—not one of my finer moments. I felt ashamed the moment the words left my mouth. We both knew it was an empty threat. I couldn’t close down For Any Occasion if I tried. The only reason I said it was because I was desperate.

After doing what I told my stubborn princess I was going to do—telling Tory that I no longer needed an escort—I also explained to Tory that McKenna was mine. She smiled and questioned what I was doing in her office if that was the case. So, I said my goodbyes, then returned to the waiting area to make my princess see reason.
